Bethany Lobocki replied to Allison Siegel's discussion Coccidiosis and Tapeworm-need to know how to treat... in Micro Livestock
"Have you tried Walco in Chandler for the Valbazen?  They carry many veterinary supplies that won't be found at regular feed stores.  They are on Frye Rd. between Mcqueen and Arizona. "

Bethany Lobocki replied to Lisa Palmer's discussion Organic Vs. Organically Grown Feed in Micro Livestock
"Many of us out there don't trust the USDA organic label.  Especially when it comes to crops like rapeseed (canola), corn, soybeans, and sugar beets.  The problem is that there is SO much of these crops grown conventionally with GM seed, that it's…"

Bethany Lobocki replied to Catherine, The Herb Lady's discussion Deep Litter chicken coop/run article from Mother Earth News in Micro Livestock
"The problem wasn't your mister...the problem was the pine shavings.  When they get wet, they clump together too much and choke out the ground below.  You'd be better with hay or straw, wood chips, or rice hulls.  I use shavings inside the nesting…"

Bethany Lobocki replied to Catherine, The Herb Lady's discussion Rendering - Vegans / Vegetarians please ignore this post in Growing Gourmet
"I keep the fat frozen in freezer jars until ready to use...then I pull one out and keep it in the refrigerator. "

Bethany Lobocki replied to Catherine, The Herb Lady's discussion Rendering - Vegans / Vegetarians please ignore this post in Growing Gourmet
"Couldn't agree more on the slow cooker for rendering fat...so easy!  Just cut the fat up in to very small pieces (use a meat grinder or food processor if you have one) because it will go faster that way.  Last batch I did an enormous amount of…"

Bethany Lobocki replied to Lisette Volkmar's discussion Help please in Micro Livestock
"Disclaimer:  I'm only familiar with the American Dairy Goat Association, not with AGS, so I'm going to assume the requirements for registration are similar...
Are you sure that buckling you got from him was registerable?  Or was he being dishonest…"

Bethany Lobocki replied to Robert Brown's discussion Blueberries In Phoenix in Soil Builders
"Re: watering
This time of year, I'm watering them about 6 days a week.  It mostly depends on how moist they are in the morning of any given day.  If something comes up one day, and I water late in the day...then I usually skip the next day's…"

Bethany Lobocki replied to Robert Brown's discussion Blueberries In Phoenix in Soil Builders
"Yes.  We like the Sunshine Blue variety.  They need morning sun and afternoon shade.  The afternoon shade is a MUST.  They cannot be up against a block wall, your house, or anything else that would reflect heat.  Mine are kept along the irrigation…"

Bethany Lobocki replied to Donna Hamill's discussion Poultry meat as tough as tire rubber in Micro Livestock
"As far as old timer's stories about killing a bird to eat that day...I also think that they weren't "used to" the tender modern-day cornish crosses either.  More dual-purpose birds and extra roosters of the laying breeds were used to eat on the…"

Bethany Lobocki replied to kate's discussion Feeding a mixed age flock in Micro Livestock
"You should stick with catering to the group with the highest protein needs.  The rest will do fine on the higher protein, but the growing birds will not do fine on the lower protein feed. "

Bethany Lobocki replied to Laura's discussion Help!! We have predators that will not stop. in Micro Livestock
"He's very handsome.  And good that you mentioned that herding dogs aren't what you're looking for as LGDs!
For those that aren't familiar:  herding dogs are bred with a "limited" prey drive...just enough to give chase, but not enough to follow…"

Bethany Lobocki replied to Laura's discussion Help!! We have predators that will not stop. in Micro Livestock
"Catherine, I hope it's okay that I'm answering for Debbie here...but I've heard that llamas and donkeys can work well as livestock guardians when it comes to larger predators.  However, I've been told that smaller coyotes, smaller dogs, feral cats,…"

Bethany Lobocki replied to Laura's discussion Help!! We have predators that will not stop. in Micro Livestock
"Three words:  Livestock Guardian Dog

And if you can't or are unwilling to do that...you might have to get ugly, with traps and/or Golden Malrin for poison.  Or sit outside and wait with one of those high-powered pellet guns which are usually enough…"

Bethany Lobocki left a comment for Scott Brown
"Hey Scott...we currently have 14 productive laying chickens.  I go through exactly 100# a month.  A new order of meat and laying chicks are arriving later this month though...so that will be changing in the near future."
