About Me:
I paint, have chickens, quail, tilapia (in an aquaponics system), gardens, fruit trees, solar panels, rainbarrels, preserve food and create alternative-powered appliances (at varying levels of success). I love heirloom seeds and have a bit of a hoarding/coveting problem with them. Here's my art website: www.rachelbess.com and here's my permaculture/urban homesteading blog: rachelstinyfarm.blogspot.com.

Super job with your manifesting! Looking forward to tea!
Rachel, There is good news and bad news. You easily won the Pick the Year game but your seedling is dying.....I repotted him yesterday and am hoping he will come around. I put both of the seedlings (one goes to someone from Garden Web) in a tray and watered well with some nutrient rich water. Also watered a bunch of other seedlings with the same. I let them sit in the tray with the excess water and next day both plants were wilting. Took them out and one recovered, the other did not. (It was you plant based on the pretty blue crackle pot it's in.) I'm thinking too much fertilizer although the smaller seedlings that also got watered with this are fine. Who knows with plants????
I can substitute with any of the following: a larger Oregon Spring Bush tomato, purple broccoli or orange cauliflower seedlings (from the sale at SW Gardener a couple of weeks ago).
I also still have Polar Baby seeds so you can have some of those for sure.
Hi Rachel,
I am considering adopting a few chickens next weekend and would love to talk to you about this. Maybe we could have coffee this week, and I could buy one of your books from you too!

I'm actually setting up an aquaponics system in my yard and I wanted to do something similar to the GardenPool setup. I don't have an empty pool but, I did find a nice used above ground pool on craigslist :) Dennis uses chickens at the GP but, I've always wanted to own quail. If I had males and hens and didn't want fertilized eggs, should I just keep them separate?
Thank you Rachel. I will be doing a little reseach on good egg sources and reporting back.
I did not sleep well last night thinking about all of this.
Rachel,
I was sickened by what I read today about Hickman's farm. Is there a list of humane egg producers in Arizona that I can recommend to my friends as alternate sources. I thought that you might be the one to know.
Thank you,
Donna
Rachel, Really enjoyed the quail class today. You inspired my daughter and me. Such a pleasure to meet you. I truly appreciate the time you took to come and present to those interested.
