  I love your chicken run!  I will be building one soon at school. Helps to see see how simple it can be.  Also worried about the heat. By any chance do you have a sister Julie?  You look so much like someone I went to school with at ASU Design.

  I like the one you found, too. We almost built something similar to that for our coop, but decided on the hanging version for mobility. We have a mobile coop, so the bucket would have to be kept in the coop and the chickens would make a mess of it. Since our birds free-range, we can't have it sitting outside the coop for the same reason. 

  We just converted a horse pen to a poultry pen, and we may do something more permanent in that area. I would probably use larger pipe to eliminate any risk of freezing & cracking the pipe. Have fun, whatever you decide to do! 

  Oh, if you decide to build your own, we'll be putting in an order for nipples soon and we could add your order in with ours. Small orders can get pretty pricy!

  Glad to have you.  I just need your email address and I will send you a google docs order form in early February which will allow all of to order our products.

  Hi  Kathryn, you sure live in a great place for chickens if you live here in Sunburst Farms! You are welcome to stop by and see my flock. I certainly don't have anything fancy, but my chickens are happy and when they're happy, we're all happy, right? My ladies are a mixed flock of all ages, so if you wanted to start out small and I feel that you'd be a good fit for them (the fact that you're studying first before leaping into chickens says a lot of good things to me), perhaps we could consider you adopting 2 -3 of them for free. They'd not lay eggs every 18 hours like pullets just into lay do, but they would give you lovely eggs every few days or so. Feel free to email me at jane (at) valleypermaculturealliance.org when you get to that point, or anytime you'd like to see the setup and talk chicken. I work both in the office "in the city," as well as from home some days, so I'm relatively flexible as to week days and weekends. I'm not a morning person so afternoons tend to be better. In the meantime, enjoy yourself here and everywhere! :=)
