  • Were did I get the Malabar spinach seeds? I got them from Johny's seeds fairly inexpensive. I heard about them from a friend of mine. I was looking for something edible that would also create shade in my back balcony. This vine comes in red or green. You pick the leaves young. They can be cooked, and they taste much like spinach. If you wait until the leaves are fully mature they are slimy. They have a beautiful flower that turns to a berry the berry is loved by birds. To harvest the seeds you just pick the berrys and let them dry. I loves the heat. It's origin is Africa I believe. So it should do well here in Az. I will be planting mine soon. I know it is very deep rooted and it likes a slight acidic soil.

I got my seeds from Johnnyseeds, it is mail order, but they are reputable. They sell to farmers and to average gardeners: It looks like they only have red malabar left.

  • yay peg! how did the ceiling painting go? you're not behind, you're right on time. stuff will get done, don't worry. i pulled a peg and bought some trees on sale and then had to go on a mad planting spree. ( although it was nothing compared to the planting you've done ) i've been busy planting stuff and digging. i'm still trying to plot out what i want where. i'm not going this weekend because my mom's coming out next week and i need to focus on the yard cause i won't have another chance for a while. if you go, you'll have to teach me it. i've always wanted a solar cooker.
that is a good idea for the arbors, i need to get a couple because i ended up buying some grapes and they're in pots until i find a place for them to grow.
we'll have to get together after my mom leaves.
  • are you home yet?
  • i cant wait to see them either. you have done sooo much! how exciting! how long are you going for? i bet when you get back, there's going to be even more growth. stuff grwon in the garden does taste so much better, huh?! i can't wait to get more stuff going.
  • yes! all one plant =) they are called sugar snack. i still have a bunch of green ones too, plus i've already eaten many before that pic. i will attempt to save you some seeds or make you a plant (notice i said "attempt" lol)
have you already done your trip, or are you leaving soon?
  • wow! you're kicking *ss! i can't wait to see it!
