Wow, Carol, as a former snowbird, you've come to exactly the right place to learn all about gardening in the low desert. Right now we're at the height of our planting season (now that must sound pretty weird to you at this point), and there is never a time here when you cannot plant anything. Even in the hideously hot month of July, we can plant winter squashes, for example; we just need to insure they have shade cloth and deep watering. Please do consider taking some of our classes, which are geared towards enabling everyone to develop sustainable, inexpensive ways of gardening, improving their home environments, raising chickens, and more.
