  • how are the trees doing? i posted some pictures of my giant mustard greens. you can't tell from the picture, but there's carrots underneath them. i can't wait to get started again =)
  • sure, i can do that. the only problem that may arise is if they have to change the day to the 17th, due to rain or anything like that because i'm going out of town that weekend. on the 10th, i'm scheduled to be there from 830 to 1230, so maybe after i'm done we could take your trees home and we could start planting a few?
it's raining today so i'm doing nothing outside, but hopefully in the next few days it'll clear up and i'm going to use a compost screen to try to sift some of the leftover rocks out of my dirt in the yard so i can make some more beds. i'm sure my neighbors are growing impatient with my rock/dirt/green yard as much as i'm anxious to finish it. some of my bok choy and lettuce is starting to flower (seeds!) , you shoud see my gargantuan mustard greens, and i've got some new sprouts coming up from volunteers or perhaps old seeds that i've thrown down before. i'm itchin to get back to work on it.
    see you soon
  • i'd love to seed swap! i'm hoping to gain some insight into some seeds that may be useful this weekend. i have a lot of seeds, but i want to find some more stuff that i actually know HOW to eat. (does that make sense ?) so i either need to find different ways to eat stuff, or i need to find ways of planting more things i like and already know what to do with. i find that i have lots of seeds that sound good, but i have no idea what they taste like or how to prepare them. quite honestly, right now, i don't have much extra time for cooking normal things, let alone trying to figure out new stuff. in about a month, work will be back to normal and i'll have some more time to explore things. so for now, i think i may just throw down some flower seeds and keep it simple.
good for you , getting all that gardening going on the thanksgiving weekend. i envy you. i had planned a whole day, devoted just to gardening, but it kept getting pushed back and back and ended up a couple of hours of digging and small stuff. however , i am thankful that i got to do that, even if it was only a fraction of the time i'd planned on.
what kind of stuff do you have going on in your garden?
  • i understand. you do have a lot of trees coming, just imagine how cool your yard is gonna be with all those trees in it! i'm sure i can figure out a way to bring anthea even if my other friend decides to go, so don't sweat it, i'm sure she'll understand anyways. maybe when you get your trees, we can have a tree planting party ;)
  • hi peg =)
i'd seen that and thought it would be really neat to go, but i have a friend in from out of town that i'd made plans with. thank you for offering. it sounds like a lot of fun. are you still planning on going to the seed swap dec 6th?
i'd planned on working on my garden all day today, but ended up running around instead. i'm gonna try and work some time in on it tmrw after i visit with my friend if possible.

just wanted to say that it was very nice meeting you today.

  • Hi Peg,
Thank you for your email! And thank you for your understanding of my crazyness. :) Thankfully, things have slowed down considerably for me as I am approaching the end of the semester and I my time is becoming more available for things like consultations. (That's the fun stuff, anyways!) Please send me an email at: dithyramber@yahoo.com, as I can't get the hang of private emails on this systems, lol, and we can go from there. Congratulations on your tree order and I hope to talk to you soon. :)

    Thanks - Heather
  • Thanks!
  • Were you able to pick up the preserves from the canning class? This is in response to your comment left a while back. If you have not, I have a few left, and will put some aside for you at the next market.
  • If it doesn't work out, there's always next year. But don't give up hope yet, sorghum can be harvested for syrup right up to frost. Maybe you can get some of us permies to help. After this coming this weekend that could include me. However, until next tuesday, I will be trying to make this place 'tidy' enough for Chandler while explaining to the inspector that the amaranth in my yard is a crop and not a weed (sigh), and replanting all my sweet corn which my dog dug up. it was 1inch high (double sigh).
