  • I bought the Assorted Purbred Bantam Chickens "A beautiful assortment of purebred bantams chicken eggs made up from all of the different varieties that we hatch. We cannot guarantee to either omit or add certain breeds, but this assortment will include a nice variety of at least 5 different kinds of purebred bantam chicken eggs." and 3 Leghorn Hatching Eggs
"If you are looking to hatch a solid chicken, for eating or laying, these eggs may be what you are looking for. Over 45 years of scientific breeding research have gone into the development of this chicken through a blending of special strains of White Leghorns. Livability and resistance to disease are very high." They sent four extra. so I got 30 eggs total and four I have taken out. I have some doubts about a couple, so I separated them from the flock!

I can see how this can become a pleasurable hobby.
  • hi Rachel,

Are there any ducks available as of yet?

    Thanks,
    Laura
  • Rachel,

I would be interested in 2 or 3 ducklings, if you still have some. Have they hatched yet? As I don't drive, I would have to arrange pick up on the weekend, unless you are heading my way - Tempe. Also, saw this on Craigslist this morning, sounds like a good home.

    Thanks,
    Lis

    WANTED: Muscovey duck or ducklings
    Reply to: sale-crvex-1123071508@craigslist.org

My male Muscovey died a few days ago, and it is so sad to see his longtime mate mourning him. She is now my only duck, although I have chickens. I would like to get another Muscovey as soon as possible -- color is unimportant.
I would like another female, or a mated pair, or a few babies, or a VERY gentle male as my female, while healthy, is twelve years old this month. We love her very much -- she is a part of the farm family here who even comes when you call her.
Please, Muscoveys only as they are quiet and don't require a lot of water. I'm willing to drive 100 miles and pay a reasonable price; I don't expect a freebie. And, yes, I have already contacted Webfoot Rescue.
    Thank you.
  • I would like between 2-4 ducklings depending on how many are available. I'll contact you around Easter. Thank you!
  • Hi Rachel,

I am totally interested in purchasing some ducklings. Should I contact you around Easter then?

  • Hi Rachel, I've posted some pictures of my flock on my page here, and amoung them are some nice photos of Dazzle. He's doing great; definitely showing his rooster-ness. We have three roosters now and we know that we'll have to send one or two to the great beyond, but I have made it clear that Dazzle shall be the rooster that remains standing! He is here to stay and this is not negotiable! Hope all is well with you and your flock. :o)
  • You're blog is great and your artwork is amazing!
  • Yes, I will definitely take notes on which ones perform the best. I usually do all hybrids, and had very good luck. This is my first year with the hybrids.
  • Bummer! Too late. I did buy some on Saturday. They are the cutest things I have ever seen. I think we have enough though, thank you for the offer.
  • Hi Rachel,

Great to meet with you this morning at the chicken class! I am sorry we had to leave early but the girls were getting restless, and a bit noisy too!

Anyway, do you need a minimum of half an acre in Pheonix to keep ANYy number of chickens, or just twenty? If you had less space could you keep a fewer number like three to four?

    Thank you again.

    Michelle.

Rachel replied to Carol Duffell's discussion Are these eggs safe to eat? in Micro Livestock
"It depends on the temperature. Eggs degrade and bacteria multiply as a function of time and temperature combined. If the eggs have already been exposed to 12 hours of veerrrry warm daytime temperatures and then go inside to an 80 degree house, they…"

Rachel replied to Carol Haynes's discussion Quail eggs in Micro Livestock
"Give them a little calcium as others have suggested but quail do have a tendency to lay a soft-shelled egg every once in awhile anyway so don't be alarmed if you see one every once in awhile.
Quail almost always lay in the afternoons; that's normal."

Rachel replied to Victoria Jordan's discussion Young broody hen in Micro Livestock
"It is possible. I've never heard of a black RIR. You should not let a hen go broody during this weather; it gets excessively hot all puffed up in the nest box. To help break broodiness, normally, you can put her in a wire bottomed cage with food and…"

Rachel replied to Anson Sarager's discussion Lava rock grow medium in Aquaponics
"I have. It's very rough on your hands and hard to transplant into and out of because of the roughness of the rock. It's also much heavier than hydroton. I much prefer hydroton."
