Thank you,
My husband and I intend to take advantage of this realestate market and aquire some property. I will be finding a place to make my gardening and microlivestock dreams come true. That is part of the reason for joining the guild, to recieve information from folks like you, who know what they are doing.
Suze,
My husband and I are laughing our heads off right now. His comment about blow drying chickens had to do with a beer commercial he had seen. Neither of us had any idea that you could blow dry a chicken.
Yes he did like your chickens. i did too. I hear that they make wonderful mommys.
Suze,
I went to the poulty show today. My husband was nice enough to go with me. It is not his "thing" but he is very supportive. He was teasing me and did say that if he saw someone blow drying a chicken (like he has seen them do at dogs shows) he was leaving. When we got there, he took one look at the silkies and said "Well, you are lucky! I won't leave. We missed the blow drying of the chickens afterall. Ha!
I met a lovely young lady there with her black Australorp. Beautiful!
Keep having fun!
Hi Suze - I'm sitting her watching my 2 girls (Ameracaunas/Easter Eggers) grow up...they're about 4 weeks now. I want to get 2 more in the next month or so and would love Silkies. Will you possibly have a few babies in September? I don't care what color... just sweet girls!
"The state vet has a diagnostic lab in Tucson, but I don't think they test live animals. You will probably need to go through a vet, and it will be expensive."
"Seriously, you need to talk with the neighbors one more time and tell them to keep their chickens OUT of your yard. If it was the occasional escapee, that might be one thing, but when it happens on a frequent, regular basis, they are not being…"
"If the regular light is coming from a street light, contact the city and ask that they put a shield on the lights that fall onto your property. This won't make it as dark as if the lamp didn't exist, but it should make a big difference.
"Pratts also carries ready-made coops. Look pretty good for the price. You can also look at ready made storage buildings and go for options that add windows and other ventilation. "
"What breed are your chickens? Some breeds tend to want to roost higher than others. Typically heavier breeds (plymouth rocks, orpingtons, etc.) want a lower roost than do lighter weight ones (leghorns)."
