  • This is my first season with my own garden, ever! I had some challenges, our puppy - a beautiful hyper active and veggie hungry husky - destroyed my garden in a major way 2 times plus one "minor" incident. So far the best crops I have been able to harvest are radish, carrots and a variety of lettuce that still make the best salad bowl on the block. We are now hopeful for tomatoes, the ones the dog did not get to are full of promises :)
  • Thank you, QuebecGirl! It has been a wonderful experience, though not without challenges. What's been your best crop so far this year?
  • Thanks for welcoming me! So is this problem with your banana peppers happening with the peppers themselves, or on the leaves? Maybe you can take a picture?

I had some peas growing that I ripped out to put in cucumbers. It seemed like once the weather warmed the peas started dying off. But... those cucumbers are growing quick and already producing enough for me to harvest.
  • I did not think about that but thanks for the tip nice photos thats a great view of your yard!!
  • Welcome neighbor! looking forward to following your progress!
  • Welcome to the Guild! Growing food is in my family too...
  • Welcome!

QuebecGirl replied to Sue Wefel's discussion Amending soil to lower PH in Soil Builders
"Chris, in what proportion do you mix the vinegar solution with water to get started? I could not spot that piece of information.

I started using coffee grinds and my pH went down a bit already. Mostly, it is earth worms fest, they are wiggling all…"

"QG - check out Costco. Right now (in season) they have a very nice tumbler for only $100. Here's a look.
If you have the space, I'd still recommend a plain ol' pile. It's quick and so convenient, and all you really need is a good shovel. I'm using 4…"

"Do you mean one like by green shoes below (next reply) compared to having the barrel on its side, or do you mean compared to a traditional compost box? I don't like the traditional compost box, it will not work for me."

QuebecGirl replied to QuebecGirl's discussion Looking for a composter in Soil Builders
"Oh neat!! Too bad I dont live in PHX itself, might have to find a way to work that out :) One of these bins would be perfect to collect things while the composter is "in process". Very nice and clean looking."

"Yes it has a lid. I cut off the one that came with it, reversed it and bungied it back on. See the slot at the top of the barrel...that is for the bungie hook. There are four slots so I can cross bungie it."
