I live in Desert Hills (north of Carefree Hwy and E of I-17). I know I want a concrete shower floor. I've found the location I want and where I want to run the drain. Planning a new tree or two. I want some kind of metal frame as I plan to lace sunbrella as my "walls". I found these beautiful mosaic tile squares 36" X 36" at The Construction Lot downtown for $39 each. How did you create the slope in the floor to the drain? I'd love to come see it.
Nick,
I really like the idea of weekday evening tour. Could be a really popular way to do it. Let me present it to the committee and will get back to you. When are you thinking?
Tami
Sorry it took so long to get back to you...but no I don't have any relatives at Chaparral High School! But wierdly enough I used to live right behind it.
Hi Nick
That is my garden from Cali last year. I justed moved here to AZ I'm getting ready to get my back yard ready for a garden for next year. I was told that you can't grow corn here:( we'll see what happens. I'm still trying to get used to the weather and the dirt here.

I have quite a bit of Rainwater and Greywater at my house. I was wondering when the home tour is going to be and is it a self-guided or organized tour?
I would like to be a part of this if it fits into my schedule. Thanks!"
"back from some summer fun and saw your question about the floor. While concrte is drying, you can shape it if youre somewhat vigilant (and depending on how dry or wet your mix is. We just kept trowling (pushing) the mix and forming the slight slope…"
"Hey Gail, I just got onto the site today and saw your message from a long time ago about the outdoor shower. I don't know how detailed I can get beyond the pictures but... I have 4 drains that I setup, poured the base of concrete, then built the…"
"Hey Delia,
I saw that you had a culvert cistern and greywater sytem at your house! First off, Awesome! Second, I am the PHX co-ordinator for the Watershed Management Group's water harvesting certification program (wow, that was a mouthfull!) Anyway,…"
"Oh Boy...well,
I have a total roof catchment of ~2611 square ft. Of which I actively harvest ~1997 square feet. I have over 1000 gallons worth of storage (tanks) so those have been full and overflowing since the first of the year. ALWAYS think…"
"I have watched that film twice now (own it if anyone wants to borrow). Man...ignorance is bliss! I had no idea on so many of these things. Privatized water companies basically working with the World Bank to "slave labor" some regions out of their…"
"For cost, you can't beat Home Depot or Lowes gutters. However, those are only 4" wide - for the heavy rains we can get here in the summer, I would recommend 5" or even 6" (for large roofs) gutters. And I would highly recommend aluminum over vinyl.…"
"well... .02" at my place, while just 2 miles south got slammed. So don't feel too bad, except for that emptying of barrels thing! at least it's in the soil now.
Thanks weather people! I know it's hard to predict summer and all but, I gotta be…"
"Hi chris, I wanted to see if I could buy some worms for my High school classrooms soon to be worm farm. I think I will have everything ready in about 2 weeks. If you think you'll have some around that time, I'll let you know when I can come by.…"
"Thanks for the tips - I picked up the info at Home Depot this afternoon. Now I'm trying to convince my younger son it would be fun to work with his brother installing gutters - probably isn't going to happen so I'll end up as the gutter…"
"For a one man job...pretty frustrating, but do-able. The biggest problem was holding up the gutters at the right angle by myself...but I rigged up a device to help with that. I got my gutters (metal) from Home Depot. About 5 or 6 bucks for 10 foot…"
"Hey Nick - I've got a son home from college who can't find a job so we are 'hiring' him to do stuff around home and one of the things we need to do is add gutters. How difficult was it and where did you get your gutters? Thanks - Michele Spiller"
