good to hear that. i don't blame you, i'd be avoiding it too. i think with some extra precautionary measures in the future, you can avoid this. i've read even dirt can harbor it ( as well as many other things) for now get LOTS of rest and just heal.
Would you be interested in baby-sitting our chickens in July? It really would be comforting to have someone who knew something about chickens do it. BTW, they seem to be doing pretty well in the heat, much to my surprise.
Do you need shade cloth for your gardens and chickens. Let me know, I'm doing some on the side work and trying to provide budget shade for everyone on the Guild site.
Message from Jo via Nichol~ "I'm not a techno geek like Niki, so I am asking her to convey how much I enjoyed meeting you today. I always love the opportunity to discuss learning and gardening projects, especially when it will be utilized by children. I look forward to future opportunities to meet and chat with you about gardening with elementary children, as well as hear about how wonderfully succesful your project is." ~
"Sounds like pecking because of the wounds. One of mine is losing feathers right now because she is moulting, but there is no redness involved. I have had them peck at each other, but not themselves before. Maybe when you have a little time you could…"
"Definately some dogs will attack, but give them a chance. Basically we did what Bethanny suggested. I was paranoid for a while while I was out with the chickens and dogs I would not take my eyes of our dog Leona because she kills birds in the yard…"
"I have two large breed dogs and they both go CRAZY for birds and other creatures both on walks or just chasing them in the backyard. When I first got my chickens I only had one dog and I watched the birds very closely and introduced them to the dog.…"
"I just give them all of my kitchen scraps, but I avoid meat and cheese. Although I have heard of people giving everything but poultry to their birds. I lay a flat board on the ground next to the house and after a month I move it, it seems to make…"
"I would love that! I have one person picking up a truckload in the morning, but there is plenty. Please tell me when you can come. The problem is shoveling it up. We have a double gate with easy access, but I'm sure my husband will either be working…"
"I am where the 101 and 51 meet. I had a VERY LARGE tree trimming truck drop it off over a year ago and it was way bigger than I anticipated. Because it has been so long it has composted down to 1/3 of what it was. I have over the year added yard and…"
"I would think they would be just fine. Anyone interested I have a huge pile of compost/wood chips that I have been using with great success that I have way too much of. Anyone interested please come and pick it up! We are really close to taking it…"
"I don't live near roof rats, but along the canal there are plenty of coyotes, but I do have a block wall around my yard. My husband was concerned about snakes coming for the eggs, but so far no issues. I have dogs that scare away bunnies and other…"
"No way! The only smell problem (and I am VERY picky) that I have had was when I had 11 hens in an enclosure made for 8 in combination with the major rains we had this last fall/winter, or when we had meat birds (which stunk terribly). Even when I…"
"I have one that I would be happy to part with, I am trying to downsize. I'm located at the 101 and 51 by PVCC. Let me know if you are interested. She's somewhere between one and two years old and very sweet."
"Hey Janine! I am the one with the compost/mulch available. I have another person showing up maybe on Friday after 4pm. I am available a lot. I will say that tue-thur afternoon is busy and Saturday's are usually busy, but other than that we are…"
