Erin replied to Lisa Palmer's discussion Organic Vs. Organically Grown Feed in Micro Livestock
"Lisa, I live in Mesa and order from Scott Brown's feed co-op.  Another woman and I are carpooling to Baker's to pick it up and I'm sure we could work something out with you if you decide to order.  Feed is ordered about every 2 months, so order…"

Erin replied to Grace Marie Newton's discussion Seedum Roof for chicken coop? in Micro Livestock
"It's a great idea.  I love looking at pics of sedum roofs and I've seen a few on coops.
A great site for easy coop ideas is Backyard Chickens .  They have a fantastic forum that can answer practically any question you might ever have about…"

Erin replied to Catherine, The Herb Lady's discussion Deep Litter chicken coop/run article from Mother Earth News in Micro Livestock
"I've been afraid to do a deep litter method as we have a lot of scorpions and I don't need to get stung again or have one of the girls get stung.  It would be a perfect location for them to hide out in."

"Do either of you know how long the rendered fat will last?  I plan on storing it in pint jars and vacuum sealing the lids on.  If needed it could be kept in the fridge.  Maybe Cheeseslave's site tells how long."

Erin replied to Catherine, The Herb Lady's discussion Rendering - Vegans / Vegetarians please ignore this post in Growing Gourmet
"I recently picked up 3 lbs of pork fat to render (don't remember if it's leaf or not) from my favorite butcher, The Meat Shop.  I'm waiting for cooler weather to actually render it but I can't wait to use it in tamales.  I refuse to use commercial…"

Erin replied to Robert Brown's discussion Cooling my hens in Micro Livestock
"I use a combination of shade cloth on the coop/run, water filled saucers, and a mister I bought at Ace Hardware.  The mister is coiled and sits on the ground.  I like it because I can move it around so that one spot isn't continually wet.  I set it…"

Erin replied to jaimee corbet's discussion chicken feed in Micro Livestock
"I don't.  I priced out individual ingredients through the least expensive source I could find, my co-op, Azure Standard.  It was about the same price as I could get an organic feed from them.  I purchased that until Scott Brown, on this site,…"
