Hi Jaimee, I can't reply to your discussion about the mesquite pods because it's posted in a group that I'm not in, but the VPA will be bringing up a hammermill from Tucson (the closest mill) to Phoenix the weekend of October 15th/16th so everyone can grind their mesquite and carob. I have heard that the vitamix can work also.

I am interested in healthy eating, local gardens, and support community groups with similar goals. I would like to incorporate this into a program at the community college level.
"Jaimee, I do not have personal experience, but I found this thread on backyardchickens. A nutrient deficiency may be the cause or other possibilities are discussed.
My neighbor has had three ducks now that have temporarily lost use of one or both legs. They return to normal after 2 or three days. Any ideas what is causing this?
"We would like the hens if you still have them. Our number is (602)320-6059. We have 4 and a duck and are looking for a few more to up our daily egg production to have enough for the whole family!"
"We do not need a broody one, but are interested in the other two girls. Are they not getting along with the others, or are you just getting rid of your lady's!"
"I agree. These sound like good techniques. It is a bit harder when integrating adult birds into a flock. Then it helps if there are larger numbers. Otherwise, it takes longer than described above."
"When your chicks are feathered out you can take them outside, though you may want to give them some nightime heat this time of year. We always put a box in the big coop that has a "door" into it and a light above. That lets the little ones go out…"
Hi, We are have 9 birds and 5 are in our coop. The others are about 6 weeks?. We haven't ever introduced new chickens to a flock, what age and how can we do this. The chicks have been in our turtles cage that is a little bit apart from our…
"Thanks! we have a similar set up, but what about when they are in that in between stage. Getting too big for the container but not fully feathered and ready to take on the big coop at night?"
"Hi my daughter is too i get lots of different grains if you can find this book it helped us a lot ! Its called Back Yard live stock by Steven Thomas. I feed mine meal worms and they love them and red wigglers they eat."
"I have had very good luck with all of my birds dealing with the heat but my austrolorps seem to be the best but our duck never seems to be affected. We have russian orloffs and americaunas they seem to all be fine we don't have anything like misters…"
"Most of mine do that, too. It's a submission position, intended for a rooster and mating. But without a rooster, they see us as the "top bird" and submit. It's kind of cute, really. When they squat, you can pet them, pick them up, etc. The more…"
