  • hi anthea =)
sorry, no, i'm not planning on going to that one. perhaps if you post on the event that you're in need of a ride, someone else may be able to help. it looks like a good tour but i've been real busy lately so i'm just going to focus my energies around here for a while. spent most of today and some of yesterday working on the garden. i can feel autumn in the air finally =) how is your wall coming?
  • my garden has grown much since those last pictures. i'll have to have you over sometime so you can see my giant mustard greens =) i'm looking forward to working on my garden some more this saturday after the class.
and yes, i do think there should be lots of life in the compost. i just think maybe next time that i'll be a little more cautious about throwing weeds(actually weed seeds) into the mix. i've always felt that weeds were just underappreciated plants, and i'd love the extra life in the garden, BUT, i think i better concentrate more on increasing the number of intended plants first, and then if i get a few volunteer weeds, they can have a nice home in my garden. i don't like to kill anything that's got such a will to live.
i do think it's really exciting , looking at my compost and witnessing the changes as it turns to dirt. i've gotten a few mushrooms growing in it, though right now, it doesn't seem to be doing much. it's pretty neat watching the cycles of life,
  • thanks for the welcome Anthea. I hope to meet some of the SW folks soon but am traveling back to Indiana on the 22nd. Enjoy

Christie Carroll replied to Anthea's discussion ORGANIC COW MANURE in Archived-Southwest Valley Permies
"The difference between Cow manure and horse manure is the digestive system of the animals, more than the selection of what they eat. Feed a horse and cow the same hay, and there will be less seeds in the cow manure because they digest the seeds…"
