Welcome to the Valley Permaculture Alliance, a local 501C3 non-profit education organization that offers classes, training, activities, tours, events and demonstrations on various aspects of sustainable living around the Greater Phoenix Valley. You can read more about the VPA on the ‘About Us’ page, and explore the many groups and resources this Ning “social networking site” has to offer, as well as customize your own Profile Page and connect with new like-minded friends.
We encourage you to browse the discussions, blogs, videos, comments to get a feel for our incredibly resourceful community, and to share your interests as well. There are many volunteer opportunities to assist with classes and events, so please let me know if you are interested in helping out when available.
We offer a variety of classes to our members on a donation basis (usually $10 to $25) that goes toward venue hard-costs, also to our experienced and knowledgeable instructors, as well as to support the non-profit in providing quality education for improving our health, our communities and environment. See what classes you may be interested in attending atwww.phoenixpermaculture.org/events - and feel free to contact us with any questions.
"Hi angie,
Tea is a very good thing for plants. I use aerobic dynamic nutrient accumulator teas all of the time in my garden. Its a bit different than steeping in hot water but the same idea.
Here's a really cool link with a chart of the different…"
"Sure; better to feed the plants with it than to pour it down the drain. You have to water the plants anyway. :) We use our coffee grounds in the way Vynnie said--we just put them around the plants like mulch. Alas, we rarely have leftover coffee..."
"You're on the right path Angie. Sheri is spot on too and adds a great point - use only filtered water on indoor plants (any potted plants actually). Tea pulp, as well as coffee grounds, can be applied to the soil of potted plants (right on top like…"
"Angie, I only use filtered water that's low in PH on my houseplants because. Most plants absorb nutrients better when it's lower. Coffee is very low PH, so the grounds can be helpful when spread around the plants. Tea...I hear mixed things about it,…"
Is it beneficial to use tea to water houseplants and/or potted vegetables at all? I've read mixed-opinions through Google search hits, and am still left wondering whether it will benefit my plants at all. With that said, (although I've never…
"I've read the "lining with plastic" somewhere too, but I see plenty of pallet bins in town that don't use them and they seem to work just fine. With that said, my compost bin is one of the recycled city trashcans, and I find that it doesn't get…"
"Thanks Kristoffer and Marion,
I will look into Singh. I may need to go halfsies with someone. New Post? Anyone wanna go halfsies on some soil from Singh? :) "
"singh is the thing. $70 a truck load he opens at 9 am. he has compost and planting miw, both are great. bring a tarp to cover it on the way home. grab a fish emultion while you are there, he has it made special. good stuff. good price."
"Monica--I am expanding my beds as well but only need an extra container or so of dirt....I am nearby in S Tempe...is there a convenient way to reach you & time this week ??
