  • Ericka,

I'm getting mixed messages from Pratt's Feed and friends about the legality of chickens in Phoenix. Do you have suggestions on how I can find out for sure?

    I'd sure appreciate any help!

    Thanks,

    Trevlyn
  • Hi....So Ericka, I am a new PPG member???....Great!...Can I then attend the next PPG lecture event, will it be free or is there a fee? • Hi Ericka! very exciting stuff and classes. my husband should be joining soon. we are always interested in growing new editible plants in AZ and this group seems very interesting.
  • Hi Erika,

Sure, if your husband has a PC certificate he is welcome for the Advanced Design Course. We had several people from the Phoenix PC community come down for the A.D.C. last year.
take care and let me know if you have any questions,

    Dan

  • That is the park I speak of. Perfect for a garden, right? I'm working with the City. Quite a few logistics but I'm determined. We'll see. Beautiful art by the way!
  • Hi there! We live near Hayden and McDowell. Just moved in a few weeks ago and love the area. I'm eyeing an (fairly) unused park on Hayden to start a community garden. Where are you at?
  • What a small world. I just filed the 2010 nominees for Grand Canyon Reader Award minutes before I checked my email. I finished the manuscript for my latest book, S is for Sahara- a Desert Alphabet book, last week. X is for Xerophyte, C is for Cactus and much more - I enjoyed sharing the adaptations that plants have to live in this habitat. Not sure when it will be published. Now I can focus on my latest gardening adventure, Square Foot Gardening. I have my boxes being built as we speak. Do you know what variety of beans works best in our area? I have lots of gardening questions so I look forward to sharing/receiving info through this group. B
  • Awesome! Thanks for the info and for thinking about me...Not much going on with the hot tub conversion plans...busy as a bee in the art work and play areas...I will send an invite for when the show I'm working on opens locally in October...So hope you guys are well! I saw that you gave a permie tour of your place...that's an inspiration. Keep it up, friends!
  • Hi Ericka! This is Julie from the PDC class that ryan helped out within...remember me? Sorry I fell off the radar for a spell...I've been swamped...Hope you are well! I tried too to send a message to the last permie group thanking them for letting me moonlight on their 3rd weekend, but I sent it through yahoo the wrong way or something. alas...Can you help me find Rubie on here...I want to ask her to teach my students about seedballs this Fall at ASU in a special class I'm inventing.
  • Hi,
Thanks for the welcome. They we're 8 weeks old on 7/12. My friend in Tucson (I am in Phoenix) who gave me the chicks, said she would take the one back, if indeed he is a Rooster, but she doesn't have any in the same age category to replace him. We can't have the Rooster in the city, or I would just keep him, if he is a he. He already has a red comb coming and the start of the wattle, the other one doesn't, so that is why I am thinking he is a he.
I love having found this site, and can't wait to browse thru everything. We are also wanting to plant a garden this fall.

Ericka replied to Kelly Liston's discussion What is happening to my chicken?? in Micro Livestock
"Fowl Pox most likely, there are both wet and dry versions. Google a bit to see which one you might have. Dry fowl pox it seems to run it's course and clear up on its own. Spread by mosquitos, pretty common."

Ericka replied to Rachel Brumitt's discussion Building Good Soil For Raised Beds in Soil Builders
"The best way to garden here is directly in the ground, not raised beds, unless you are in a really rocky area up on the mountain. Sunken beds hold moisture better in our climate, and all that is really needed is adding organic matter, 50% compost to…"
