  • Hello Ericka,
Thanks for the note. I'm a hobby beekeeper with a dozen producing hives here in the east valley. I enjoy responding to homeowners who have honeybee infestation problems. In many cases I'm able to "transplant" the colony or relocate the colony into a man made hive box, to take to a better location. Some homeowners or land owners wish to keep the colony on thier property but somewhere more condusive to urban living. This is great and I encourage it where possible. I welcome calls for opinion and to compare notes. For my labor and or material, I ask compensation. In most cases it is $48.00. I hope your question is answered.

  • ericka,
hopefully you don't consider this out of line, but i came across a website that may or may not be helpful for your nephew and i thought i'd pass it on. was going to send it as an email, but don't have that option on your page. i have lots of info on nutrition and i came across a reference to a dr. bernard rimland which is what led me to this site.

if you do consider this out of line on my part, please accept my apologies. i realize that there are probably lots of people with good intentions giving unsolicited advice that may be unwanted.
  • Hi Ericka (and Ryan) - thanks for the tour on Saturday - you guys have done loads of impressive work. It was nice to see all the earthworks that Ryan talked so excitedly about in the PDC class. I especially like your use of 'toilet art' - I have been wanting to use a toilet (and bathtub) in my frontyard plantings - found a great toilet last time we had uncontained trash pickup in the neighborhood - hauled it home only to have my husband put it out for our trash pickup when I was not home and that was the day the truck came through. In my husband's defense - he thought one of our boys or their friends put it in our yard as a joke - now I have shown him a picture of your toilet planter and he may not understand - but the next one I find won't get tossed...

  • Thanks Ericka! Maybe I will meet you at the "rain barrel build" event. I see you're an artist also. We will need to get together on that one. I'm excited to be a part of P2; and know that I will gain a lot of new knowledge and hopefully share some of what I have learned since the early 70s.
  • (a month later...) Hi Ericka. I had gourds growing one year, and many people stopped to ask about it. I was really excited about using them, but they got moldy while I tried to dry them out. Just another fun experiment. Are you sharing the squash? I have chili peppers out front, not a lot, but enough for salsa, but no one takes them. If I offer them, maybe one in ten will. I like having a front sharing section. Seeds too. Pat
  • Hello,
    thanks for the welcome.

My practice used to be closer to you on Scotts/Shea...we moved 5 years ago.
Worms are a lot of fun...they convert produce scraps to fertilizer in a fraction of the time..and they give you bait as well.

  • Hello Ericka, thank you for the warm welcome. I love this picture, I too think it looks like a woman dancing. Perhaps an Earth Goddess :)
  • Thank you for the welcome note. I'm still a novice cheese maker. I make a few soft cheeses and am perfecting my mozzarella. I love making yogurt and it really is super easy. You should try it. I'm hoping soon to have somewhere to age hard cheeses and try my hand at something more advanced
  • Thanks for the "Gaia's Garden" recommendation! I checked it out from the library, and it's amazing. I'm learning a lot, and forming completely new ideas about what I want to do with my yard.
  • Every body enjoys my fish raising experience that started when my kids would not clean the pool. It lasted 20 years with an average of 100 pounds of fish fillets per year. I d o not know if that fits into pertmaculture venue or not. Bob

Ericka replied to Kelly Liston's discussion What is happening to my chicken?? in Micro Livestock
"Fowl Pox most likely, there are both wet and dry versions. Google a bit to see which one you might have. Dry fowl pox it seems to run it's course and clear up on its own. Spread by mosquitos, pretty common."

Ericka replied to Rachel Brumitt's discussion Building Good Soil For Raised Beds in Soil Builders
"The best way to garden here is directly in the ground, not raised beds, unless you are in a really rocky area up on the mountain. Sunken beds hold moisture better in our climate, and all that is really needed is adding organic matter, 50% compost to…"
