Oh I think you'd want to wait until we've got the barn done so you can see it set correct. Im not even sure we'll be able to get it done since we've been spending so much time finishing the store up! :) Plus, we should hopefully have our Blue Satin doe dropping her litter by next weekend :)
You're more than welcome to! We'll be finishing up the barn hopefully Sunday, since Sundays are the only day I have off each week :) Feel free to look at our rabbitry site too. www.LepuHaleRabbits.com of course it's still being updated :)
Hi Donna, unfortunately any egg producer that's large enough to sell in mainstream grocery stores is going to be a factory farm of one type or another. Though I haven't researched specifically, I would be surprised if even the $8 eggs at Whole Foods (or however much they cost) are from chickens with any better conditions. The best and probably only place to buy humane eggs is at one of the farmer's markets or from someone that lives near you/your friends that keeps chickens.
Big show in Ventura California this weekend, State Fair is next week (entry deadline was the 1st of October), the first weekend in November in Farmington New Mexico, second weekend is Ohio Nationals (HUGE show, 10,000 birds), Thanksgiving weekend in Tuscon, second (I think) weekend in December in Shawnee, Oklahoma, first or second weekend in January in Safford Az (Gila Valley Poultry Club), last weekend in February in Safford, Az (Arizona Poultry Organization)
Oh yes, first you bathe them, then you blow dry (with the direction of feather growth for most breeds, against it for silkies). Then you trim toenails and beaks & oil their combs. Hard feathered breeds such as gamebirds get their feathers sprayed with Pinks, a hair product for african americans, that contains oil, or with glycerin, then the feathers aren buffed to a shine with a silk cloth. Watching last minute show prep before a big show can be entertaining and enlightening.
Not too much blow drying at a lawn show, but at the larger shows it is more likely to occur--usually when a bird dunks its head in it water bowl shortly before judging. Most hair drying occurs at home, though, right after they are bathed :) Especially with the silkies, to blow their feathers nice and full. So your hubby liked my silkies?
I have been a vegetable gardener in Arizona for 25 years. I have raised chickens and rabbits for meat and eggs. I am currently teaching others to raise vegetables year round in the desert.

"Donna,
The inspector that I talked to in January said that chickens are still allowed for under 10,000 square feet. I have learned though the experience with the City of Phoenix is you can't really trust the City of Phoenix. Depending on who…"

I live downtown Phoenix and have friends in Gilbert that would love to benefit from being able to have chickens. I have three girls that are WAY quieter than the dog that barks four houses down from me across 7th Avenue! And would be more…"
