Hey Judith!! (hehe)
It was so much fun having you guys over on Monday. I love to go bike riding and so does Gabe so we'll have to include him next time (he felt bad that he was not able to play with us). And thanks again for the eggs. When can we do burritos?
Hi Judy - WOW! I really like the looks of your updated page.
I personally (could be wrong) think the main reason the book club fizzled is because of all the wonderful class and workshop offerings going on at the same time. I do not blame anyone one bit for preferring to attend hands-on learning sessions instead of a book discussion. I would have done the same given the choice.
Online discussions - there are many online book discussions - many on books dealing with sustainability so perhaps we could pull it off - even just the 2 of us. I have wanted to read Fast Food Nation but have not had the chance yet. I will do that during this break. Let's have a discussion right after I finish reading it?
We're all doing well here. Molly is settling into our routine. She is rambunctious, precocious, bright as sunshine, smart, curious and we love her to pieces. Five of the 7 pups have been adopted - 2 males are living in very nice foster homes. They are adorable and just like their mom so no clue why they haven't been adopted.
How are you and your crew doing? I see you've joined the Micro Livestock group - getting to know and care for your chickens :-D It's been chilly of late - have your doggies been wearing their lovely coats?
Great! I hope that the SolarCity alternative will work for you. I will be out of town for the next week. Let's try to meet up after I get back.....Barbara
Judy: I am so glad that you came to the Solar party today and that it was useful for you. Please come by again so that we can have a chance to chat together. Barbara
Hi Judy, Thanks for the additional fill-in. The pups are drinking PediaLite (vet finally called back and after some discussion regarding their problem recommended trying this first) instead of water to keep their electrolites in balance. Molly seems to be over her little bout but the pups are still having a little trouble. However, they continue to play, eat, and sleep normally. My husband is taking Molly in Tues. morning for her next batch of shots and will take the pups as well and have them looked at - probably check everybody for worms. When I take my dogs for a walk early Tues. B4 school I will have to take something along to collect a sample from her.
I need to get in touch with Beagle Rescue (Joe and Pat in Surprise) and find out how the 4 pups they have are doing. It's going to take me awhile to totally let go of these guys. My 3 miss their sibblings - they whine more than usual and want either Doug or me to pay more attention to them.
Hi Judy, I'm a bit concerned about the book club - seems we buy the books, attend the meetings and then talk about other things. Water is so important - probably the one thing we all need to focus on and yet no one seems terribly concerned.
Beagle Rescue took 4 of them yesterday. I cried but I also know there is no other way. They are at the Surprise PetSmart now being shown and will be in Scottsdale at a special annual adoption thingy on the 25th. We still have 3. At the moment I am planted next to the phone waiting for a call back from the vet as all 3 pups + Molly have developed diarrhea. If it was just the pups I would attribute it to the shots they had yesterday but Molly didn't even go to the vets nor has she had anything at all different to eat so I'm quite concerned.
Thanks again for taking over. I really don't know if I am going to be able to continue with the book club at all. I have some family issues going on that I thought would be resolved by now but aren't. I'll keep everyone concerned with the book club posted.
Hi Judy - Thank you so much for stepping in last Sat. How did it go? I did give some thought to essential questions you might ask to get the meeting going but never got to my computer (except to check email from my classroom computer) until today. The pups take every waking moment and many sleeping moments that I am not in school. I have never worked so hard or been so busy. There is no school today or tomorrow and the pups are asleep out on the back patio at the moment. In another hour my husband will be home and the circus will resume as we set up their indoor pen and bring each one in. Then the entire patio has to be power-washed (forget about saving water), all food dishes cleaned up, their 2 kennels cleaned out and blankets washed. Then in the morning I go through the whole process again in reverse.
Four pups should be leaving us for foster homes tomorrow. We will still have 3. The deal was (we signed papers) that Beagle rescue would take all 7 when they were 8 weeks old (they are almost 9 weeks) but they could not find enough Beagle rescue members to foster them. I am too exhausted to miss them and too sick and tired of cleaning puppy poop ALL THE TIME!
Momma Molly will be spayed within the coming month - before she goes into heat again.
BTW - I had ordered Blue Gold through ILL and it just (finally) came today so I have never read it. I will try to read it now - should have a bit more time with fewer pups to care for. It came from the Chandler Public Library. I also have to read In Defense of Food which I don't have yet either. Just too much to think about lately.
Hi Judy, A million thanks. I know you will do a great job - and no one else has even contacted me one way or the other. I will let Jen know you volunteered before she cancels the meeting.
Yes, those pups are adorable. Their coloring could mean Rotwweiler, Dachsund, or Doby. No way of knowing without DNA test. Molly has exactly the same coloring and her build suggests more Dachsund - a tiny bit long bodied and short-legged for a Beagle. We have them for a t least 2 more weeks. It will be a bittersweet parting - I am exhausted but I will miss them terribly as I have fallen in love with every one of them.
We will have them for at least 2 more weeks - they will be 9 weeks old at that time. Possibly longer depending on availability of foster homes or adoptions. They are an immense amount of work - haven't read a book in 3 weeks! They are adorable and wonderful and I love them to pieces. :-D
I am not going to be able to be at the book club next Sat - famiy commitment. If there is no one willing to lead (and you know there is really no effort involved:) Jennifer will have to cancel the club meeting for Oct.
Hi Judy - What kind of birds are in the first 2 pics? The black bird and the black/gold bird. Then there appears to be a turkey wearing a white fluffy stole and a straw hat :-D. Great pics.
How are all your projects coming? I know you had talked about managing some gray water and an outdoor shower.
