  • I do have some bird visitors to the grapes. My dogs scare them off usually, and I use old CD discs suspended on fishing line to assist. I get so many grapes that it is usually not much of a problem. Netting is also available if you have a bad problem. The chicken cover would be a great idea. In a couple years the growth is plenty to accomplish your goal. Jack
  • Wow, those grape vines are beautiful. I would love to grow something like that to cover and cool down the chicken coop, creating a green living coop. Do you have a problem with birds eating your grapes?
  • hey jack,
question for you, i noticed that you do the wheatgrass and was wondering if you need a juicer specifically designed for the grass , or will any juicer do. i know that humans are unable to digest it in grass form, but wasn't sure if it required a special type of juicer. i am thinking about investing in a juicer ,but would like to know from someone who already juices, what applications i can use it for.

  • thanks jack, that would be awesome. i didn't even know you could start them from cuttings. i went out and looked at them, i keep hoping i'll see some new life but nothing, pretty dry and shriveled up.
  • Hi Brandie,
Thanks for the address. We live in Wickenburg which is about 50 miles northwest of Phx. I go to Phx. College in the evenings two nights a week, and also do errands down there often. I am always looking for some place to eat and shop that fits my raw food needs. I look forward to coming into your store, and if possible meeting too. I can hardly get my wife to go down to the valley since she is so comfortable in our rural setting, and hates the traffic, but you never know! Thanks for the invite. J
  • The address is 7029 east fifth ave, Scottsdale az 85251
Here are the web sites, it is a great space. If you are a morning person starting in october there will be early morning meditations. If you and your wife stop by let me know and I will make a point to meet you. Peace and blessings namaste

  • I wish it was my garden harvest. I took the picture last year on a trip to Peru. I have never seen such a variety of produce, especially corn and potatoes. The food there was awesome. We want to go back and spend a month in Cuzco just for the food.
  • hi jack,
thanks for the comment. my boyfriend thought i was crazy when i was getting the broken concrete, but he likes it now. i have more rocks to haul and more concrete to put in, but i'm trying to do a little planting to reward myself for all the heavy work earlier.
as for the grapes, i think it's too late for them. that was my "before" picture. i can't bring myself to take an "after" yet. i think i overcared for them. maybe overwatering, they were doing real well, but i went away for about 4 days so i watered them REAL good before i left and when i came home they were shriveled up. they'd already been in the ground for a few months, so it shouldn't have killed them. my first attempt at growing grapes so i hope to gain some knowledge as to not kill the next ones.
  • Hello everyone. Thanks for the nice welcome. I look forward to meeting some of you at events, classes, the marketplace etc. I have really enjoyed this website since I found it and joined. Thanks to all that make it possible, keep up the good work! Jack

"Hello Lylah,
Your squash are being eaten by insects obviously. There are several that I know of, grasshoppers and cut worms of different types. Have you found any insects on the plants themselves? The irregularity makes me think of grasshoppers they…"

"Hi Marcy,
Yes you need a juicer that is capable of juicing green leafy vegetables. I use the Green Star twin screw juicer. It does a great job with all vegetables, and an exceptionally good job with grass. I bought the one with all the attachments,…"

"My first comment was referring to a pruning plan that I got from the Ag extension that told how to prune for fruit production. I just re-read my earlier message and it felt a little unclear.

"I would like to see such a market myself. I love fresh produce, and enjoy the fruits of my own garden annually. I have never had the room to grow such a bontiful harvest though! Thanks for the response. J"

"PS see you at the composting class, sounds interesting. There is also a class on making bokashi about a month later. It is a type of propagation of microorganisms that make your soil healthier and organic, so it can use up the compost you put in it.…"
