About Me:
I've been gardening since I was 4 years old, and just recently acquired my first small flock of backyard chickens. I grew up in West Texas during the Seven Year Drought in the 50's and lived in Barstow for four years as an adult, so I have some familiarity with desert living. However, the Sonora desert is different from the Mojave, and I have a lot to learn. I've grown organic veggies in Lakeside and I want to learn how to grow them here. However, I've never composted and want to learn how, especially now that I have an excellent source of raw fertilizer from my little flock. Also, I definitely want to learn how to make my hens more comfortable in the heat. I lived on a horse ranch in Lakeside, have had several horses of my own, and specialize in grooming and nursing injured or sick ones back to health. I'm a retired Publications Coordinator with a background in graphic design, and I love to write and draw, although I haven't had time until recently to do much of the latter.

Hi Ginger, So glad to see you here! Writing and drawing are a couple of hobbies of mine as well.
Welcome to the Valley Permaculture Alliance, a local 501C3 non-profit education organization that offers classes, training, activities, tours, events and demonstrations on various aspects of sustainable living around the Greater Phoenix Valley. You can read more about the VPA on the ‘About Us’ page, and explore the many groups and resources this Ning “social networking site” has to offer, as well as customize your own Profile Page and connect with new like-minded friends.
We encourage you to browse the discussions, blogs, videos, comments to get a feel for our incredibly resourceful community, and to share your interests as well. There are many volunteer opportunities to assist with classes and events, so please let me know if you are interested in helping out when available.
We offer a variety of classes to our members on a donation basis (usually $10 to $25) that goes toward venue hard-costs, also to our experienced and knowledgeable instructors, as well as to support the non-profit in providing quality education for improving our health, our communities and environment. See what classes you may be interested in attending atwww.phoenixpermaculture.org/events - and feel free to contact us with any questions.
