  • Hi Shawn - No, I haven't begun any of the re plumbing project as of yet. Because of time & finances, we have to do everything in small baby steps. So, we will hopefully get there soon. For now, I have been saving the 2 1/2 gallons it takes for the hot water to get to our shower in a 5 gallon bucket & putting it on my garden. And my water from washing dishes get poured on a tree in the front yard.

Oh - I do currently recycle my wash machine water....I just diverted the water into a 55 gallon drum with a spicket on the bottom that I run into a bed in the front yard. No laundry detergents used in my laundry...just Soap Nuts.
  • Would you mind just coming to our school and helping me figure all this out? We can get our measurements and talk business over lunch. We're pretty central in Phoenix and if a car is a problem I can bring you the school. I can only send photos over my cell phone.
    Please call me at 602-478-7769
  • Hey Shaun,

I'm interested in a shadecloth as well. It should be an 8'x8'x11'3" blue triangle, hemmed, with grommets on each corner.

    Here's a mockup:

Not sure yet how I'm going to attach it. I'd rather not drill holes into the house or the block fence, nor sink posts in the ground.

So I'm thinking of adding metal strapping to the tops of verticals of the block fence, leaving some sticking out to clip the corners of the shadecloth onto.

If you have any ideas on that, that'd be great. But mainly I'm concerned about getting the cloth.

    Thanks!
    Korina
  • I have a need for shade in the school's courtyard garden. This is a very high traffic area and one of the "jewels" of our campus.
The area is shaped like a trapezoid with the NW facing "top" being 8'. The length of the bottom about 25'. We were thinking of overlapping sails so we get some full sun for our containers (the courtyard walls are about 20' tall). Being a primary school we want bright, fun colors.
We would need you to come see the area in person, after school hours to walk us through your "vison". Installation won't be a problem.

  • Shaun- I can't figure out how to email you, your page doesn't seem to have a "send Shuan a message" link...

I am interested in a shade cloth/sail style for our chicken coop area. The coop will be located on the East side of my house up against a bedroom wall. There are 6 foot block fences on the south & east side. I would like a sail style cover to help block morning sun for the chickens. It does finally get shade about 1130am & by 4pm that whole side yard is shaded. It would be cool if you could also cleverly conceal the part of the coop/run that will be seen over the block wall (from the south side). Even tho chickens are legal where i live, I still want to remain low profile...I will attach a pic of what the coop will look like. Feel free to email me at Creativedogma@cox.net...thanks !!!\

Dimensions of side yard are approx 14 feet wide by 20 feet deep. Need to cover about 14 wide-ish by 8 feet deep

    Thanks
  • It's a beautiful day!
  • Not sure if you got my email.. That environmental group I mentioned is reachable at azwild@azwild.org.. Their phone is 602 252 5530 They have an event tonight downtown Phx..
  • Hey Shaun--Thanks for asking! My school is near 39th Ave and Northern in north/central Phx..We have some exciting happenings these days.. I garden w/ 12 kids every morning at 7:15 for 1/2 hour..and our school board may approve a raised bed to be donated, plus sprinklers, by a landscaper I know who will donate his services... But we have absolutely no funding and could use any help (either design ideas or ways to make it better for cheap) I'm going to that Environmental event tomorrow night (Thurs) down town.. that activist group is having an office opening.. Sorry don't know details but maybe you're going? I'll try to write more tomorrow am.. Cheers..
  • So far my containers hold a series of peppers. There is one called a "chiltepin". It is a tiny red pepper the size of a pea but its very hot. I have one lime, a myers lemon and an assortment of bougenvillas and such that I am trying very hard not to kill. D

"I just read in a post about you re-plumbing your house to divert the water away from the sewer. How is that going, have you got started or is the project on hold?"

"Sounds like a great project.
I have a few concerns about working with a school. But I'm brave.
If this is a public institution, the bureaucracy could make this more than a project about bringing some fun and functional shade. Plus public…"
