Brad! Hi! It was nice meeting yo today. Here is my personal email. kate.rutz@gmail.com. Today, you took home 1 bearded ameraucana, 1 clean-faced ameraucana, 1 blue andulusian (black splash), and 2 red sexlinks. If the blue andalusian lays small to medium white eggs, i have that breed right. If she lays large (very large) white eggs, she is a minorca. please keep in touch and let me know how things go.
Her name is Teri. I bought and picked up a rotating composter this morning that I found on Craig's list. I got it for $50. Just in time and now I can keep the dogs out of the compost. I think they're going to be running some classes on how to make them also. I requested the class then found this one, but I would like to have two.
Let me know when the pruning party is and I'll come and "supervise" :).
"Within the last week, we had a chicken that was not doing well and I was afraid she wasn't going to pull through. The first day I noticed her, she just sat around without standing when I went to pick her up. I checked her vent for egg binding and…"
"Well, a bit of an update. Heard the cluck-cluck telling me one of the hens laid an egg. I rushed out there and all four were in the coop pecking away at the egg. It had broken open and they were all enjoying a fresh egg. Time for new hens. I'll…"
"When mine lay thin shelled eggs, I find them broken in the nest. I added oyster shell, but didn't see improvement until I started sprinkling a little azomite on their treat daily. I had read somewhere that the balance of minerals is important.…"
"Are the eggs opened and eaten or just cracked? Chrystine is right on, but if you have egg pokers or egg crackers, there may be hope. Separation is the first step."
Some of our hens have decided they would like to break most of the eggs in the nest boxes before I can get home to take them out. They break their own as well as others. I've started adding oyster shell in an effort to make them harder but does…
"A couple of points: 1) we don't know if the eggs are sterile or not so they may not hatch and 2) chicks will need to be raised inside the house under a source of heat as in a low wattage light bulb. Once they have their feathers, they can be moved…"
"The chickies are getting so big. They integrated just fine with the RIR. She scolds the on occassion but other than that, no issues. Thanks again and I'll get you soe pix in the near future.
"This chart is so cool. Looks like its based on 12 hens? At the moment, we're down to one hen and she's been laying regularly for the past 2 and a half to 3 weeks. "
"Thanks Bear. Took me a couple of weekends to build since I work full-time and it has served us well. Again, let me know if you want to come and take a look."
"Good morning Bear ~
Several years ago, I built us a coop that will withstand a hurricane and could build one for you. Although its not tall enough to stand in, I can sit in it as the whole end opens up. You are more than welcome to contact me so we…"
"Hi Erika. A couple of years ago, we acquired a chain link dog run and I built a coop to go on the end outside of the run. I covered two-thirds of the open run with a solid corregated plastic roofing material and the other end is open so the girls…"
"Wow! I go to work for a few hours and there's now two pages of discussion. Sounds like you got your order in Kate. Glad to hear it. I think we'll wait maybe two weeks before getting a few bantams as we need to do some work in the chicken run first."
