I know it might seem a little over the top, but I was trying to learn carpentry skills at the same time as making something useful. My next project will be an art studio/guest house.....Amy Matthews (DIY goddess of tools & buidling stuff) watch out !!!
Wow, great job on the coop, did you have plans or designed it yourself? How many chickens do you have? I plan on raising chickens, but probably not for another few months.
I bought a design online and pretty much modified it completely to fit my needs. The roof is about the only thing I didn't change. It's about 6 x 4 feet, so at around 24 square feet in the hen house & the run is about 9 x 4 feet. Depending on who's opinion you get it's about the right size for between 6-12 hens. I have 7 chickens total (minus one rooster, possibly)...just got 4 more today I would be more than happy to share the designs with you, I did modify alot of things as I went. I think the best decision was to put the nest box on the outside to save floor space.
It's so fun to watch them play & chase each other around for grapes :)
I had no idea that owning chickens would be so fascinating.
I'm sure they're happy in their new home. I like the nesting boxes outside of the coop. Wish I had planned mine that way now. The star is a nice touch.
