  • Beth - what a cute idea...
  • Great idea, thanks! DO you blow it right on them, or just in front of the coop?
    • Hi Monica, I wasn't sure to which fan you were referring, the nice big "mister" fan Beth has, or the little one...we positioned the little one to blow over the chicks' heads. One thing we learned, the hard way, was that it needed not to be right up against the cage bars. One day I heard extra loud peeping, ran out there, and here was a baby chick hanging upside down from the fan! She had somehow flown up enough to catch her toes in there!!! I turned off the fan and gently worked her toes out of there, and amazingly, she was fine. So after that, we angled it so that it was not right up against the bars but still blew over the chicks' heads (and their "cooling towers").
    • It's about 12 feet away from the coop on low. They don't seem to like it when its on too high. :)
  • Yep, these things work great.
Last summer when I had baby chicks, I did something similar - I had several mason jars filled with ice water inside their cage, and a little fan rigged up to blow inside their enclosure. After the ice water melted (daily) I used it to replace the water in their waterer.
I'll bet you have some very grateful little chickies!
