My only laying hen wants to lay right in the middle of the day! Without fail, it is always right after noon, and when I'm at work, I worry about it being in the heat 'cooking' till I can get home and get it out. How long can it be out in this heat before it would not be good?

That does make sense - but it seems unnatural to those of use who have 'only' ever purchased refrigerated eggs from a store. :) This will take some learning and getting used to! :) Thank you for the comments and advice.
I think they are fine. Sometimes if I'm too busy I don't get the eggs until the next day....so far so good, no food poisoning etc! Plus when they are first laid they are very warm to the touch, so I think that continuing to be warm won't hurt them, as long as they aren't laying in direct sunlight I would imagine.
