  • Hi Jeff,

I was looking for some info on greywater systems and came across your posts. Would you be interested in doing some consultation work with me? When we remodeled our house we plumbed for greywater, but are now stuck on what to do with it as it leaves the house, could really use some guidance. Feel free to e-mail me elena.ortiz@phoenixcollege.edu

"That's one of the biggest hurdles to rainwater harvesting in Phoenix, Chris - water is so artificially inexpensive here. However, I've heard that rates will be going up soon. The City of Phoenix is considering a tiered system like the one used in…"

Jeff replied to Michael and Lylah Ledner's discussion Using Pool Back Wash Water - reclaiming it. in Water
"If you've been using municipal or well water to irrigate your plants, you've already been giving them high doses of salt.
While chlorine is not good for plants, the concentrations in pool water will not be dangerous for your plants - it'll just bind…"

Jeff replied to Nancy Caroli's discussion Raised Garden Beds Keep Veggies Above the Rodents in Archived-N Scottsdale, Cave Creek, Carefree Permies
"If you're going to use chicken wire and hardware cloth to keep the critters out anyway, why raise the bed? By raising the bed, you'll increase the water requirements significantly more than if the bed was below grade. Wind and low humidity will draw…"

Jeff replied to Nick's discussion Water catchment maintenance in Water
"For cost, you can't beat Home Depot or Lowes gutters. However, those are only 4" wide - for the heavy rains we can get here in the summer, I would recommend 5" or even 6" (for large roofs) gutters. And I would highly recommend aluminum over vinyl.…"

Jeff replied to Gwen Hogan's discussion Avocado Trees in Archived-N Scottsdale, Cave Creek, Carefree Permies
"I remember way back as a kid, putting toothpicks in avocado seeds and resting them in a glass of water till roots started to grow from the bottom. I also remember never actually planting one, because everyone said it takes something like 7 years…"
