Thank you so much for the advice. I even have the boards. The biggest issue is just how little soil is left once the rocks have been removed. I am going to get massive amounts of compost and horse manure which I have found on Craigs list and let it stew for awhile. I will have to dig atleast 2 - 3 feet to get under the caliche to provide enough drainage. Going to see how we can do that with some kind of machine...maybe a hole digger or small bob cat.
"I recomend partialy rasied beds filled with compost mixed with soil 50/50. This can be done on the cheep using 6" fence boards $2ea. If you use fresh horse dung keep moist and wait 3 weeks before planting."
"Avondale garden patch shovel day 2 is this Saturday 3/12 I am not sure what the start time is the last one started at 10am. At the end of Coldwater Springs Ave. East of Avondale Rd."
There is a great, one-evening class coming up this week for anyone who is new to vegetable gardening, new to gardening in the low desert, or would like to brush up on their gardening skills or knowledge. To sign up for this class email Esmie Avila…
"I live in Avondale and I would like to help on the Avondale site. I own a truck and I have many tools and construction skills I also have some gardening experience."
