I'm excited to announce two new community gardens, one on the West side and one in Mesa.
The Garden Patch is a new community garden in Avondale that is breaking ground in late February. The city of Avondale is leasing us over an acre of land adjacent to the new Library and City Hall complex. We've also submitted the paperwork for 501c3 status. If this initial garden turns out successful, we plan on starting pocket gardens on abandoned lots all over town.
We're also starting a community garden on one acre of land at Mesa Community College, on the Horticulture program's Landlab. It will be open to community members, as well as students and staff.
Both are being set up as organic gardens with educational components and farmer's markets for members to sell their produce, or donate to local food assistance programs.
Stay tuned for volunteer opportunities (we'll need you!!!)

I also have a pickup truck and a lot of garden tools. Unfortunately, I'll be out of town this Saturday but will be back Sunday. Please let me know what I can do to help out!

Fred,
That's great! we're having "shovel day" on Sat. Feb 26 at 8:30 am. The garden is located at the end of Coldwater Springs Ave. across the street from the Avondale Library. My cell is 623-640-8800 if you have questions.
