Hi, I've been eating lots of nuts this past holiday season, the ones in shells and was wondering if those leftover shells can go into the compost bin? I have been eating the commerically mixed version, which includes brazil nuts, hazelnuts, walnuts, pecans and almonds.I'm a long-time composter (since the 80's) but for some reason, I never thought about whether to include nut shells or not!! Thanks for any thoughts on the subject. Kathy

Agree with Ben but have you enough to use as a mulch? Could mulch a pot or two. To break them down place on hard surface and trample with tough boots on, or use a roller etc. They will break down faster in the compost if the particle size is reduced.
