Mesquite Bean Pods Wanted

Hi all,  a request came into the Guild via email about getting some Mesquite Beans.  Please see the text below:

"Hi Liz,

"I live in San Luis Obispo, CA and I’m interested in finding whole mesquite pods. When I Googled that term I found your website and the info onthe recent milling event. If any of your members still have whole pods forsale, could you get me in touch with them?

Thanks,

Sharon B."

If you have some, let me know and I'll provide Sharon's email address to contact directly.

  • Any idea what the person is using them for?

I still see ta few of them on some of the trees near my work, but especially on the ground under those trees. Are they wanting to actually eat them or just want the seeds from them?
    • No idea their intended use - have you tasted the pods from your office? I wouldn't recommend gathering any pods that have fallen from the tree, they might be contaminated with who knows what from being on the ground. But I would encourage you to take a pod from the tree and taste it, if it is sweet then it would be good to make flour out of - if not - the tree is probably a chilean mesquite or another variety that wouldn't make good flour.
