So...my first winter requiring alfalfa hay is fast approaching. Back in Michigan, hay prices would be sky high during the winter. Is that the situation here? Do I need to load up my hay loft? Anyone else with livestock, or knowledge of hay prices...please chime in! :)

It used to jump sky high in the winters here but now that most of the dairies are out or way down, the prices aren't going through the roof. Last winter... $12/bale. Last Spring... $12/bale. This spring: $7, this summer $7.50 and now we're up to $8. It all depends too on how well your supplier stocks up. I don't see us paying more than $9 a bale this winter. We've bought hay from the same place for the last 20 years and it's always really good quality. I know their bermuda bales are 110-120 pounds each and running $10. Alf bales are about 80 pounds.
