  • You could also hatch the fertile eggs from Trader Joe's.

    If they are really fresh you get a pretty good hatch rate and end up with Leghorn laying machines (they have good temperaments too)

     

    There's a forum on BYC of people who have done this.

     

  • We got ours at Higley Feed in East Gilbert off Williams Field Rd & the 202 San Tan.  They were called "Sex-Linked" but they appear to be most like Red & Black Star Hens.
    • Red stars and black stars are sex-links. :)

      For home hatching, although it is tons of fun, be prepared to eat the roosters (unless you have room/are allowed to have  them). This is probably obvious to you, I mention it only because you talk about your goal of laying hens in the original post.

    • If you live in or near the NW valley, I could give you a dozen from my flock that may or may not be fertilized and may or may not hens, but I would just give them to you.  I have 15 laying hens and a rooster right now. Mine would be mixed breed also.
