Four 9 Mo. Hens Available

I have to cull my girls as they have all become egg eaters.  It makes me very unhappy but I got them for laying, not just pets.  We used golf balls in the nesting boxes from the beginning and then retrofitted the boxes so the eggs would roll away into a trough.  Worked for a short time only.

I'm not mentally at the point where I can butcher them myself.  I obviously need to take the class next time it comes around.  So, if anyone would like 4 chicken dinners please reply to this thread.  I'm in Mesa, near the Red Mountain 202 at Gilbert Rd.

  • Put them on craigslist yesterday and got quite a few responses. They ended up going to a terrific teenager who's going to try to reform them by trimming their beaks. He lives in Deer Valley on over an acre and also raises goats!
    • Good for you! I'm sure that makes you feel better that they're getting a second chance. ;)
  • It can definitely be more difficult to butcher birds that you never intended for that purpose. My neighbor used to trade cows with his neighbor (when he lived on a small farm) and they would butcher each others animals. If no one on here wants the birds, you could probably put them on craig's list as egg eaters and get enough money to at least cover the cost of your new chicks.
