floor for roost?

We are building a tractor type roost and run for our chickens. We have been looking at several online for ideas. We are building one in two parts. there is a long low run about 4' x 8' and 2' tall. Then there is a second part that will attache to the run. This part is about 4 1/2' long and 4' tall. The perch and nest box will be in the top half.My question is should we have a floor between the top and bottom half or is just a nest box and perch enough? It looks like it is done both ways in the pictures I have found.

  • Thanks for the replies. Well my husband wins this one. :) He thought just a perch would be enough too.
  • Thanks for replying.

I am new to the chicken thing and I just didn't know that if there was bad weather (a few days of rain) if they would need a place up off the ground that was better than just a perch.
  • I would hate to clean that floor if there was one. I would just leave it open. My main goal with my coop was to have very little clean up. They poop a lot where they roost. Mine poop right into the compost bin and my smaller chickens in another coop poop right over the grass or whatever I have them over. This way I don't have hardly any cleaning to do.
