1 to 3 suspected roos may need a new home!

I have some lovely Ameraucana birds I got from Padillas Peeps- they are so beautiful and NICE temperament birds...I email them often to tell them how happy I have been with their birds! But the chicks I got were straight run as they didn't have any older birds for sale, and unfortunately, I think I have more than one roo in the bunch. I'm no expert, but based on how they are maturing, I'd guess I have 3- one black, one blue, and one splash.

One of them tried his crow for the very first time this morning! It was like he was showing off for me before I went to work. (the blue) Oh, if only there were quiet roosters!

My neighbor has weddings in her back yard frequently so I'm guessing she would be on the list of the first to complain if I tried to keep a roo :(

So I'm hoping that someone here would like to give them a home- if not, they'll be going to Pratt's I suppose. I want to make sure they are boys before I send them on their way, so for now the Blue who crowed this morning is certainly available. I will keep everyone updated if the other two start to crow. If someone knows better than me about telling the boys from the girls, I'm open to input- I tried to get some photos this morning, but they were more interested in my mealworm treats than posing for pictures.

These photos were taken just this morning!

  • Just a note:  A few weeks ago I passed a Yard sale with a beautiful  rooster in a cage out near the street.  I checked with the owner and asked how much?  His response was "$50".  When I was surprised he added , calmly," he is a fighting rooster".  When I responded negatively with "It is against the law to fight chickens in Arizona"  he said it wasn't.  When i insisted, he asked if i knew Blythe, California...Seems that is where he takes his birds to fight.  He also made excuses by adding that it was a good way to make money.....Needless to say--the rest of the conversation was more out spoken on my part than I would care to admit...and when i left Iimmediately called police, humane Society and MCSO.  Just wanted everyone to know this guy was here, and in business.    so, please be careful of where the birds go.  and I am pretty sure cock fighting isn't the only negative end for chickens.

    • That is awful! I am so sorry to hear about this. People like this are exactly why I posted here, and NOT on craigslist- I'd prefer he go to people who will keep him as a pet- or a "stud", not a fighter- especially since I've been holding them and raising them for months and they are just so sweet...

    • I once had a voodoo priest offer to buy a roo that I incubated.  Needless to say, I didn't sell to him.  Good luck!
