About Me:
Joy B. Borum, a former county supervisor with emphases in labor, mental health and social welfare, and automobile dealer, began mediating for in 1982. Though formerly a practicing family and juvenile law attorney who also mediated, she now focuses her practice on mediation at the Family Mediation Center, established in 1981, and on collaborative law at Joy B. Borum & Associates.
Joy is former chair of the State Bar ADR Section, then on its Executive Board, a co-founder of the Maricopa County Association of Family Mediators (MCAFM), its former ethics chair, and now vice-president/president-elect. Joy was a Consultant member of the Academy Of Family Mediators, now an Advanced Practitioner Member of the Association for Conflict Resolution (ACR); a Scottsdale Bar Board member, member of various local and state Bars, plus the Family Law, ADR, and Mental Health Sections of the State Bar. She was a member of the Superior Court mediator guidelines (Roster) committee, Superior Court Alternative Dispute Resolution committee, and the Maricopa County Bar ADR Section. Joy’s a board member of the Association of Family and Conciliation Courts, a member and Panel Chair of Arizona Town Hall, and a member of Scottsdale Leadership Class XXI.
Joy worked on a mediation class for the nationwide campuses of The University Of Phoenix; designs ADR programs for various Bar and other organizations and clients; trains advanced mediators; lectures at Universities, and, through BeJoyUs™, designs and delivers retreats, workshops, and individual and group classes.
In addition to her honors psychology degree and honors law degree, Joy completed the two-year training at the Gestalt Institute Of Phoenix plus their one-year systems and couples training. She has been a co-psychotherapist with a Phoenix psychologist.
Joy served as Director of a domestic and sexual abuse counseling center and shelter; was an educator in the chemical dependency field, and was an emergency and foster home parent. She had a live, public access television show, was the first female member of the Scottsdale Papago Rotary Club, served on arts boards and political campaigns, is a MENSA member, and was the first female county board member in her county of origin. Back in the day, she co-chaired consciousness raising groups.
Some of Joy’s delights are: being married to an oil painter extraordinaire; mothering and step mothering 6; step-grandmothering and grand mothering 13; being co-owned by 2 Pekingese; playing with her keyboard; taking yoga classes, sculpting multi-media pieces, and hiking, kayaking, and biking wherever she finds herself. Occasionally, Joy terrifies small, white balls back and forth across long, green lawns.
Joy loves movies and the arts, dark chocolate, red wine, her knee-high, red cowboy boots and Jujyfruits, not necessarily in that order.

I was also at the tour, and if you were the one who could not get bamboo to grow, the guy we got bamboo from told us to plant it in highly composted horse manure 3 feet deep. That is what we did, and ours is just starting to get growing after one year in the ground, with lots of horse manure :)
