  • neat images on the welding projects! welcome to the guild!
  • No my husband does not have a welder, it is just one of the many thing he would love to do :)
Through your photos I can tell you have many talents with metal work. I am going to "friend" you. I would like to keep in touch as I can see your services coming in handy for many projects. ~Ericka
  • Hi Ericka,
I'm looking forward to taking part in the activities of the guild and meeting others in the group. Does your husband currently have a welding machine (or welding torch)? I am not a "hobby welder" per se. What I mean is that I earn my living providing welding services (mainly field, portable welding).

In my spare time (which is in between jobs), I am working with scrap metal I have accumulated to build things. Which I like to do. Right now I am working on making some wood burning stoves out of old water heaters. When you strip away the outside sheet metal and underlying insulation, what is left is a relatively heavy wall tank that can be made into different products such as the stoves or BBQ grills, large hanging chimes, etc. I have the wood burners on craigslist.com in the hopes that they might sell. I put them up a few weeks ago. I have several tanks that are stripped down that I am working on. I want to have around four on hand of different configurations for sale and see if they move before making more.

I will post some sample pictures on my space here. I also have produced some patio style furniture out of scrap car rims. I have rims that I will be working on after the stove projects.

If you husband is looking to team up with someone to work on ideas, I'm open to that. When I came across the guild, one of the ideas that came out of my discussions with a volunteer was to let guild members know that I can make them trellises or garden items out of metal. These would be for sale of course as its how I put food on our table.

I also offered to volunteer to help the guild with projects that may require metal working as a way of contributing to the effort. Maybe your husband would be open to teaming up and helping the guild out in such ventures. Just some thoughts.

    Thanks,

    Tony
  • Thanks for joining us Tony! My husband is interested in welding, he did some back on his parent's farm. Looking for a "hobby welder" as he likes to mess around with scrap parts too.
