  • Thanks for the info Ryan! I will definitely check out that book. Unfortunately my condo has a covered patio with only an hour or so of direct sunlight in the a.m. I've killed almost everything I've tried to plant in containers back there. Do you know of any resources for shade plants/vegetables? If there such a thing? :) I've also tried composting... had my brother build me a tumbling composter out of a gallon drum, but because I don't have a "yard", I don't have yard clippings to add to it, just fruits & veggies & newspaper... but I'm keeping positive about this new batch of compost I'm trying. And I plan to attend one of the composting classes In the next month. This website/group should hold tons of potential for me! :)
  • Thanks for joining us! There is a lot of great info on this site and the classes may help your thumb.

A great book to check out is "Gaia’s Garden – A Guide to Home-Scale Permaculture by Toby Hemenway". Through the basic permaculture principles it gets you thinking about the relationships of the soil, bugs, plants, animals, us. Here's a review by Jennifer.

And here's a link to a Planting Calendar for the Phoenix area.
