Hi Diana, The proper mixture of ingredients for the lasagna garden includes newspaper, mulch, compost and a fertilizer/amendment. You will want to use one layer of non photo/color ink to cover the ground that you are intending to garden and then water it down so that it will not blow away while you are working with the rest of the ingredients. Then, in an even layer of between 3-6 in., spread down a heavy mulch like woodchips, straw, pine needles or shredded paper. I prefer to use wood chips because it is easy to come by them in large quantities for free. Then you want to spread down an even layer of compost. This layer should be the same size as your mulch layer ie. if you use 4 in of mulch, you should use 4 in. of compost. This compost can come from your own pile or be purchased at a nursery. Forest Composted Mulch is what I purchase, if I don't have enough in my own compost bin. Then sprinkle or pour down a layer of amendment/fertilizer over the top of the compost. I prefer fish emulsion or kelp meal mixed with alfalfa meal and rock phosphate. You can then start the process over, if you have the materials. When your pile has reached the desired height, then spread an inch to 2 in. layer of compost on top so your seeds do not fall through to the bottom and water the whole pile down. You can begin to plant right away!

I read somewhere that you can use leaves. Any kind of leaves. Oleander? (I have a lot of that!) Also, someone told me not to use Pecan. THANKS~
