I am trying to find out if there is a "safe" way to fertilize

my lawn without harming my dogs.  Does anyone know of

a manufacturer that sells such a product.  I have 2 1/2 acres,

of beautiful lawn that's needs to be fretilized - and I also have

4 dogs that need to be protected from poison!  Any advice would

be welcome.

                                Thank you,

                                       Sharon

  • Hi Sharon,

All of the above suggestions are great. One more is to use a mulching lawnmower, or take the bag off your current mower. We have used a mulching lawn mower this season, and our grass is the greenest of all of our neighbors and we have never ferlilized other then the manure we put down when we seeded. The grass clippings are full of nitrogen and go right back into the soil...plus, you use less water!

  • Pee. Yes, simple human pee diluted with water 50/50 is extremely good for lawns and plants.

  • Hi, could you use fish emulsion in a spayer to feed the foilage or milorganite for teh soil...you can probably pick both up at ace. worm castings would also be a great soil conditioner, think you'd have to order online for bulk castings

  • Hi Sharon,

There are many people in the valley who have horses and need to have the manure removed--if you can find manure that is at least one year old it will provide great fertilizer for your lawn.  You can often get it for free.
