Identification help: stringy, stangulating living organism attaching to purslane & other plants

please help me identify this (photos attached). daily I pick this off & throw it in trash (not into compost & don't give it to the chickens). it doesn't have roots but returns relentlessly..

Looks like dodder - a parasitic weed that lives off a host plant. http://ag.arizona.edu/yavapai/anr/hort/byg/archive/dodder.html (note the classes mentioned in this link were held in 2009).
