What does it mean when your chick

I finally got my 2 chicks yesterday. I knew I would love them, but I love them more than I even thought I would and so does my family. Already! They both keep streaching their legs back behind them. Is this a sign of anything. I have a light coating of pine shavings down. Thanks for your help in advance.Theresa

  • Stretching is perfectly normal. Can you add just one more chick now (while they're young before pecking order is established) for "insurance" purposes? Chickens are extremely social. If one dies later, then you'd unfortunately have a lone chicken.
    • That is a great idea. I will have to see what my hubby thinks too. Do you recommend any particular breed that does good with heat and children?
  • What kind did you get?
    • I have one RIR & Araucana. I love them.
  • Thanks. Can't wait to see their warrier pose. hee hee :)
  • All birds do yoga. :)
  • It means that they've been cramped in a tiny egg their whole life and they're enjoying being able to stretch out. :)
Really, they're just stretching. They usually hold one wing out when they do it.
