Had a weird one today, and thought I would see if it is something to be concerned about.
1st, since the hens started laying 5-6 months ago I have seen many different behaviors and a few egg types. For a while there in May-June, i was getting a shell less egg once every couple of weeks or so. It would generally be in a relatively thick membrane but no shell. You could even pick it up some of the time, like a little plastic bag that would not easily break. Since then, I have been mixing in oyster shell in with the layer ration and not really had any since. The other weird part was it was generally always in the roosting area not the laying area, like she could not hold it in or something and did it in the night or early morning.
Today, when i went out to feed and water early this morning, there was an egg in the roost area (lying in the poo) that had a shell, but was wrapped in the same membrane. I cleaned it off, and it was completely intact although the shell had some weird white discolorations on it (mine are all brown egg layers). shape was fine if a little rounder than normal.
anyone experience anything like?
Chris
