She stopped laying

This is a follow up post to my previous one, "My first chicken emergency." Harriet is much better, but hasn't laid an egg for a week. Before the incident, she typically laid an egg every day. Sometimes she would skip a day, but she would never go more than 2 days without laying. I am assuming that she is still recovering and will lay when she is ready. I also noticed that she doesn't squat when I go to pet her. She used to do this and all of the other chickens do this. She just runs. Should I be concerned?

  • I thought she had to be at least a year to start molting. She is about 7 to 8 months old.
  • The stress could keep her from laying for a couple of weeks. It's also possible that she's going into a molt, but I think it's more likely that she's still just recovering.
  • The squatting thing is how they submit to a rooster, so if she's not laying she's not going to be interested in breeding, or doing the squatting thing. It's not something to worry about.
    • Right, I know that. However, should I be concerned that she hasn't laid an egg in a week?
