Rooster in city limits...

A friend of mine has a neighbor with a noisy rooster.  Any advice on keeping the peace, and losing the constant wake up calls?   Her husband went over there and asked them to shut the rooster up, and they asked why...  :)
My friends just moved in recently, so how do you boot the rooster kindly?

    Maybe they can inform the neighbor that they do NOT need a rooster to get eggs. This is a common misconception, so if that is the reason they are keeping it - problem solved. Otherwise, they should kindly let them know that roosters are not allowed in the city limits and you want to give them an opportunity to get rid of it before someone esle reports them to the city.
