I have been considering raising meat rabbits for quite some time. I have done it before on a fairly large scale. But I would like to start out slow. I think that I am ready. I am considering only one buck and one doe. New Zealand of course. I have a source out of town, but am wondering if there are any available locally.

If you'd like more info, check out http://users.tamuk.edu/kfsdl00/rabb.html which is the website for the Rabbit Research Center at Texas A&M University. There's a good-sized section about the development of the Altex cross and info on purchasing them from the program. I had contacted Dr. Lukefahr at the university about getting a buck, but decided later to go with the Rex instead. You'll have to check out his page on the university website; he's got mighty impressive credentials in the field of meat rabbits.

I check out the site too. So glad I did. i have been talking to people who raise NZW for show. Now I know that it is not necessarily advised for a good back yard meat production enterprise.
