This morning I noticed watery yellow diarrhea in the feeding dish and thought that a chicken might have broken an egg but I noticed that the yellow material had the white splatter that you usually get on top of normal looking bowel movements. I didn't think much of it until I noticed that my Naked Neck isn't up to her usual self today. She sits in one of the laying nests with her eyes closed and doesn't really move. She only comes out to drink water. I even gave her a handful of her favorite scratch just to see if she would react. ZERO. She wasn't interested. Last time she laid an egg was the day before yesterday and she was running around like normal. Is there anything I can do? She is about a year old and not a high volume layer but her eggs are bigger than normal. How will I know if she is egg bound or is there a way to check her temperature? What is the normal range? Her comb is red and everything else seems normal. She does seem to be taking in a lot of sun.

Thank you for responding, Rachel. No, I do not have that book and I think it would behoove me to purchase it.
She is back to her normal spunky self. I'm not sure what occurred. She was so lethargic, withdrawn and did not eat for that whole day. She was standing in her laying box and obviously pushing but the following day there was no egg to be found. Prior to her falling asleep in her laying box, I palpated her little belly and found nothing unusual. I also checked her vent and all seemed normal. Whatever it was, is now gone.
Yikes. You seem to be getting a lot of notches in your belt. How is she doing now? If she was eggbound she would likely walk more like a penguin than a chicken, also they don't tend to be able to go to the bathroom because of the stuck egg. I'm feeling like your issue is either broodiness (I don't think this is it, based on your description though), some kind of illness, possibly too much sun...
An odd poop here and there isn't necessarily a sign of illness (there's also cecal poop, which is different than regular poop, it could have just been that) so I'm not certain they're connected in this case unless you know it came from her.
Do you have the Chicken Health Handbook by Damerow?Ok. Something is definitely wrong. It is nighttime and she is still in her laying nest trying to push out an egg. She is drinking a lot of water, though.
