Medicated Chick feed in compost?

I am cleaning out the box I have my eight new chicks in and I noticed they have scratched a lot of their food out of the feeder and into the pine shavings on the floor. Add to that my 3 and 4 year old thought the chicks needed more and poured a bunch on the floor as well. I would normally scoop up the pine shavings and dump them in my compost pile, but paused with the large amount of medicated food mixed in. I am wondering if it will interfere with the decomposition in my pile. Any experience or advice is much appreciated! Thanks!

    I have done that in the past with no problems. As long as a compost pile is cooking well the medication is at too low a dosage to effect it.

    Hi Lisa,

     

    I would not put it in your compost.  It will not most likely infer with decomposition, but you would be adding the medicine to the compost, soil and ground water.
