'Hen' Crowed this Morning

I'm having some difficulty with this 'urban chicken' thing!  My wife came in the house this morning and said, "Our chickens are making a strange noise."  It was definitely some sort of crow.

I'm assuming that means its a rooster but either way I can't be having noises like that in my yard.

I've posted some pics on Craigslist but so far no one has contacted me : http://phoenix.craigslist.org/cph/grd/1977692676.html

I'm betting that roosters aren't that popular.  Any takers?  If not, anyone have advice on what I should do?  My wife won't let me (and I don't know if I could) cull it, but we certainly can't keep it around any longer.

Thanks,
Jason

  • Thanks for the replies! I was actually able to give the rooster away to someone on Craigslist who had already posted. He was looking specifically for a RIR rooster to watch over his RIR hens. He'll be living the good life now!
  • I have "given" my roosters to Pratt's before. If they do not have alot already there, they will sometimes buy them from you for $15.00. just put that rooster in a pillowcase and go. And it is definitely a rooster. The tail feathers are a dead giveaway!
  • I was told that there is a rooster resue in Queen creek. You may want to contact some of the big farms around. You can seach them on the web.
The two times that i brought home 2 chicks that were 97% female, i ended up with a rooster both times. That is how i ended up with 2 hens 1 year apart.
    Good Luck!
